Sunday, 14 February 2010It may be the last official day of WFOL, but the fun continues. We have our salute to Valentine's Day in the Conversation Corner, and it's full of wonderful things for you to discover. Poetry? Yes. Fan Fic? Yep. A romantic video? You got it. A new Quest? You betcha. Romantic quotes? Of course! A new poll? It's there. And that's not all! Enjoy!
When you're done in our little romantic corner, it's time to hit all the chambers and do EVERYTHING. Make it a day in the tunnels that you won't soon forget.
Later today we'll be posting the closing ceremonies and this evening, come to our farewell chat. But don't be sad. This isn't the end! The dream continues as we carry the light of this gathering out into the world.
Saturday, 13 February 2010If you haven't stopped in for a chat, today is a perfect day to do so. It's the WFOL Talent Show! Come share in the fun and laughter and cheer on your fellow fans as they entertain us with their talents. Times can be found on the Chat Schedule in the Conversation Corner.
Also new are some very clever Beauty and the Beast filks written by Sylvia and Diane, some early fans of the show. ("Filk" is a fannish name for song parodies.) You can check them out in the Amphitheatre. We hope to hear a lot of humming in the tunnels today.
Friday, 12 February 2010Good Grief! Is it Friday already? Where does the time go?
First a word about the Mosaic Stories.
The Candlemakers have been shining their lanterns here and there and have determined that the issues with the 3S Mosaic were not a deliberate attempt to force it off track. It was a series of innocent errors caused by the confusion over the "All Season" heading, for which we have to take responsibility, and the enthusiastic efforts of some of our newer fans who haven't been as immersed in the tunnels as others. Not everybody subscribes to the WFOL group, so the earlier "cease and desist" request wasn't seen by several of the participants. So, we are happy to report that no one is guilty of sabotage in the first degree (speaking of verdicts, have you seen First Degree in the Amphitheatre? ) -- and even happier to report that we are going to restore both Mosaics. We encourage the 3S fans to light their candles, sharpen up their quill pens (or, at least, limber up their typing fingers) and take the now more appropriately labelled 3S Mosaic where they want it to go.
How did you all do on the Treasure Hunt yesterday? We hope it was fun for everyone and that help was available when or if you needed it. If you’re still spelunking, have no fear. Help is still available. You can either ask on the yahoo list or send a direct request to us.
New for today, we have for the "First Time Online", the Restoration trilogy of zines written by Molly George, which can be found in the Library. Get yourself a cup of tea, (maybe some of that Lion’s Mane), a few munchies then get comfy and enjoy.
And, in the Gallery, you'll find Chan's collection of favorite B&B artists on deviantart.
Thursday, 11 February 2010Whew! We're happy to report that Mouse seems to have Arthur under control this morning.
But we regret to say that the Mosaic stories have been removed from the site. WFOL is meant to be a safe place for all seasons. We would appreciate it if everyone would help us to keep it that way.
Are you still having fun with the other activities? Are you meeting new friends or catching up with old ones? Find a chat, play some games, add to the daily challenges. Join in wherever you find a place that interests you.
Today's new activity is the annual Winterfest Treasure Hunt, so put on your hiking boots and get ready for the trek. There are a couple of sites that are steamier than the others. Those of you who are not fond of such steamy places, please use the links given to skip those parts of the treasure hunt. Somewhere in one of the chambers of the Great Hall, you'll find a telltale icon that will take you to the beginning of the hunt.
You may find places that interest you as you travel. If you're too focused on finding the treasure to leave the hunt and look around, bookmark them and check them out after Winterfest. You may find something to enjoy after the party ends.
Now get out there and find that treasure!
Wednesday, 10 February 2010A little excitement in the tunnels this morning. Mouse. Arthur. Time Travel. Don't ask!
We think things are back to normal now, though. Only one problem. The Daily Challenge is missing some information.
Today's challenge is: Cinquain
Cinquains have 5 lines
Line 1: Title (noun) - 1 word
Line 2: Description - 2 words - adjectives that describe line 1
Line 3: Action - 3 words - adverbs or action words that relate to line 1
Line 4: Feeling (phrase) - 4 words - feelings that relate to line 1
Line 5: Title (synonym for the title or a word that sums it up) - 1 word
So give that a try, and then take a look at some other games.
The Game Nook is always a popular hang out during WFOL and today we have added a brand new game which is sure to challenge the most die-hard fan. It's
The First Time Game! Stop by, test your knowledge and see just how many "first times" you remember.
This year we have managed to squeeze one new video out of Candlelight Creations. It's called First Degree and it's located in the Amphitheater. Come prepared
to cast your vote.
How are you doing? Are you up to date on the Round Robins? Have you added a line or two to the Mosaic stories? Dropped in on a chat? Led Paracelsus
on a merry chase through the Maze? There is always something to do at WFOL. :)
Tuesday, 9 February 2010Before we get to today's updates, we'd like to extend a round of applause for those participating in the Question of the Day and the Daily Challenges. The intelligence and creativity of this fandom could not be more apparent. If you haven't stopped in, we suggest you do ASAP. And while you are there,
leave a little something yourself.
Nothing embodies Vincent's love for Catherine more deeply than the crystal necklace. Come meet Tamara Thompson, the designer of this beautiful symbol of
his devotion to her. You can find her interview in the Amphitheater.
BATB fans are insatiable when it comes to our beloved characters, and this voracious appetite for "more" often has delightful results. After discussing
the episode "Nor Iron Bars A Cage", a small group of fans sent up a collective groan. "That's IT?!" The outcome was four wonderful episode enhancements
and a lovely song. You don't want to miss this. You can find it in the Library.
Monday, 8 February 2010Hello! It’s nice to see so many of you back. We have a few new treats for you to sample today.
Are you in the mood for poetry? Some of your fellow fans have done some readings for your pleasure. They left their recordings in the Listening Chamber,
which you can find in the Amphitheater. You know how much Vincent loves poetry. We saw him heading that way earlier. If you hurry, he might still be there.
Are you more comfortable speaking French than English? Annik is offering you a guided tour in French. You can find it here.
Rosemarie Hauer, one of our Beauty and the Beast artists, created wonderful calendars over the years. Today you can find all the gorgeous art work from
A Silent Beat of Wings, her 2005 calendar, in the Gallery.
The chatrooms have been busy. You might want to check in now and then for a visit with some other fans. If you’re a very social being and move easily into
any conversation, just jump right in. You never know what you’ll find – possibly some entertainment like yesterday’s impromptu game of Twenty Questions.
If you’re new to chat or Winterfest or fan activities in general, can’t keep up with the typing skills of the “professional” chatters, or are a little
shy, there’s a new chatroom for introverts and newbies where things might move at an easier pace. Stop by now and then and find someone to talk to. Look
for a link right under the simple chatroom in the Conversation Corner.
And, of course, you’ll find updates of our daily challenges, daily poll, daily… Well, we think you’re probably becoming adjusted to the search for the
That should do it. Get out there and find something that makes you happy!
Sunday, 7 February 2010Welcome back!
Today we have something new and very special for you. It all began with a small uprising in the tunnels. Father, in despair, turns to ... who else? Vincent, of course! His counsel is sorely needed. And at the center of this tempest? TEA! Stop by William's Kitchen and see what the fuss is all about. Then stay and have a cup of Lion's Mane or Dark Rose tea. Perhaps William can tempt you with one of his special scones.
The Ebay Auctions are up and ALL the proceeds go to our charity. So bid often and bid high. It's a win-win situation. You get a piece of BATB and you're helping a worthy cause. And to sweeten the deal, shipping is free within the U.S.
We're trying an experiment with chat today. We've created a second simple chatroom for newbies and introverts. If you prefer a less intense chat experience, this might be something to try.
Also new today... ahem... Question of the Day, Poll of the Day, Poem of the Day, Chuckle of the Day, Performance of the Day, Daily Challenges, etc., etc.
You had better get going!
Saturday, 6 February 2010Welcome everyone to Winterfest Online 2010!
If you want to know what's new, this is the place to be. Today ... everything is new! But here are a couple of things to notice, in case you missed them.
Our site map is new and improved this year and hopefully easy to use.
If you opted for the express route through the opening ceremonies, you may want to go back at some point because there's a new video for you to enjoy.
This year's charity is FINCA International. Stop in at the Helpers' Nook and find out why we think it's a worthy choice.
Each day in the Amphitheater, one of the literary readings from the series will be shown for your viewing pleasure. BATB's use of classic literature was one of the many things that raised this show above the ordinary fare offered on television.
Winterfest Online is proud to announce that the Beauty and the Beast Memorabilia Museum is returning this year, newly restored and upgraded. Be sure to stop by, explore all the new features to enhance your visit and take a virtual tour. We guarantee you won't have "museum feet" even if you spend hours wandering the halls. Just remember to blink now and then! The museum is located in the Gallery.
That's it for now! Off you go!
